1957 Ford Thunderbird w/ Removable Hardtop

The T-Bird began life in February 1953 in direct response to Chevrolet's Corvette which was publicly unveiled in prototype form just a month before. Under rapid development, the T-Bird went from idea to prototype in about a year with the car beginning sales as a 1955 model which created the market niche eventually known as the personal luxury car. It was named after a mythological creature that was worshiped by indigenous people of North America. The T-Bird was relatively unchanged for the 1956 model year but was revised for 1957 with a reshaped front bumper, a larger grille, larger tailfins and larger tail lamps. Also in 1957 the 312 cu in (5.1 L) V8 became the T-Bird's standard engine with an increase to 245 horsepower. This particular T-Bird is a 2 owner car with 71,236 original miles. We represent the 2 nd owner on consignment who purchased this car in May of 1973. It was originally Colonial White but was repainted about 25 years ago in Red. The paint has held up well but it is starting to show its age in addition to a few dings, dents and chips. At the same time the interior was redone in its original color of Red and still shows incredibly well. The original numbers matching engine and overdrive transmission have never been rebuilt and still runs incredibly well. Mechanically and electrically everything is in order except for a small leak in the vacuum lines running the windshield wipers. You will also want to know that the original hardtop is in its original color of Colonial White as it was never repainted and it has been hanging from the ceiling since the car was repainted 25 years ago so it is suggested that all of the weather stripping be replaced before it is secured to the car. Additionally, the original soft top was removed at the same time and has not been re-installed in 25 years either. It has a new soft top that has been in storage for 25 years and all of the parts are accounted for but they will need some restoration work and assembly. There are also a few other spare parts that are available as well. All in all we would classify this is an average #3 car but have priced it as a #4 car in response to the economy to insure a quick sale so if you like what you see you better call before it’s gone!
