1966 AMC Marlin w 1,106 Original Miles

The Rambler Marlin was the first mid-sized fastback car made in the United States during the sixties. Built by American Motors Corporation (AMC) from 1965 to 1967, it was a halo car for the company. It had an exceptional array of standard equipment and AMC marketed it as a personal luxury car. The Rambler Marlin became known as the AMC Marlin starting with the 1966 model year. Besides the name there were a few other changes for the 66 model year which included slight modifications to the aluminum grille, a front sway bar was made standard on six-cylinder models and they also offered an optional black vinyl roof. Popular Science magazine road test comparison of three 1966 sporty fastbacks (Ford Mustang, Plymouth Valiant, and AMC Rambler) highlighted the Marlin's quiet interior, high quality upholstery and positioned seats with adjustable backrests that "permit almost any driver to find an ideal seat-to-wheel-to-pedal relationship", as well as the "best-balanced ride on good roads and bad". This car was purchased by William Tollagsen on May 16, 1966 from Loop Rambler, Inc in Chicago, IL. William drove it very rarely and decided he wanted to preserve the car so with 1,101 original miles he put it into storage in 1971 where it sat until 2009 when he passed away. Margaret (William’s girlfriend of 50 years) gave it to Chris Daly whom William considered his only son even though he didn’t have any kids. The car is titled in William’s name and has only accrued 5 miles since Chris acquired it so for those reasons we are considering this to be a one owner car which currently has an unbelievably low 1,106 original miles. When Chris uncovered the car he was simply amazed at the condition of this completely unrestored barn find. The original Brisbane Light Blue paint is the only thing that really shows any aging at all as a few things were sitting on top of the car cover before he pulled her out. With the exception of a few minor rub marks the paint finish is incredible with a laser straight rust free body that shines almost like new. The black interior is in showroom condition with Airliner Reclining Seats that make it easy for anyone to find comfort. Mechanically the only problem that was found is that the gas in the tank went bad so Chris installed a new fuel pump and sending unit using only NOS parts. After that he flushed the tank, cleared the fuel lines and rebuilt the carb. Once he got it running he did a complete tune up, changed all of the fluids (and filters), changed all of the gaskets and installed a new radiator using only NOS parts. With its recent tune up and overall incredible condition the 232ci 6 cylinder engine purrs like a kitten. The trunk is adorned with all of the correct equipment including the original spare and factory installed hubcaps which were replaced with the currently installed dealer optioned hubcaps which are surrounded by its original tires. This collector’s piece is optioned with bumper guards, undercoating, Duo Coustic rear seat speakers as well as the vinyl top. The vinyl top not only covers the roof but also covers trunk, has some sweet accents that surround the side windows and still shows like new. In fact, with the exception of a few minor flaws in the paint and some pitting on the chrome bumpers this car looks like it was stored in an air tight time capsule. You will also find a nice collection of paperwork which includes the original window sticker, owner’s manuals, repair books, build sheet, maintenance receipts and it was in the Hemmings Unrestored magazine in March of 2010. This is an incredible find that comes along rarely so don’t wait to contact us because once it is gone you will never find another like it!
