1970 Chevelle SS 396
SOLD!In 1970 GM dropped the displacement rule and the first change was that the 396 engine was bored out to a 402 but the car kept the 396 badging. Also the 1970 model was the year that the Chevelle SS changed back from being a specific model to a trim package. This gorgeous Chevelle has just undergone a frame off restoration and is of show quality. During the restoration we were fortunate enough to discover the original build sheet on top of the gas tank when it was removed. It shows that this is an original L-48 SS 396 / 350 hp Chevelle. Unfortunately we are missing a small part of the build sheet but the most important information is legible verifying original options such as the tinted glass (A01), Power brakes (J50), front disc brakes (JL2), tilt steering (N33), Power steering (N40), glove box light (U27), push button AM radio (U63), A/C (Z14), 396/350 engine (L34) and of course the SS package (ZK8 & Z25). Delicate attention was paid to being as correct as possible in restoring this beauty and the only deviation from it original assembly was a tasteful switch in color from Dark Gold Metallic (58) to a more desirable Red (75). You will notice in our detailed photos that everything is present except the wing nut for the spare tire hold down and the jack. Given the current state of our economy we have priced this car aggressively for a quick sale. If you have been looking for a restored and documented Chevelle SS you better move quick because this one surely won’t last long!
