The Hurst Lightning Rod floor shifter (Triple Lightning Rods)
The Hurst Lightning Rods were modeled after the multi-arm shifters used in purpose-built drag cars of the era, and rather than a single shift lever, the Lightning Rod has three of them. Each lever effectively locks the car into a given gear; the left-most shift lever locks the transmission into 3rd gear, then when you pull the middle lever back it locks the car into second gear, and the right lever locks the car into first gear. This gave the driver full control over the shift points and by leaving the middle and right levers in their forward position and setting the left arm into the OD setting, the car would shift itself like any other automatic transmission. The Lightning Rod shifter allowed automatic transmission control never before seen in the US and the look of the shifter gives the car a race-ready look.
