1986 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am
The Pontiac Firebird was built between 1967 and 2002. The availability and cost of gasoline in 1982 meant the weight and the fuel economy of the 3rd generation were primary concerns. Not only was the 3rd generation about 500 lbs lighter than the 2nd but it was also more fuel efficient and accelerated quicker. This was all possible due to the 62 degree windshield slope, a glass hatchback that required no metal structure to support it, finned aluminum wheels and a functional rear spoiler. The end result was world class aerodynamics, handling and excellent fuel economy. In fact, in 1989 the fastest American car on the market was a Firebird. This particular example is completely stock with its original 250hp 305 V8, 700R4 transmission and rear end with 2.73 gears. It is a one family (2 owner) car with 47,520 original miles. It is nicely optioned with power windows, power locks, cruise control, tilt steering, power steering, an AM/FM cassette player, fog lights, T-tops and of course the Trans Am performance package. The factory stereo was just replaced with an Alpine AM/FM CD Player that is i-Pod compatible but the original radio is included. Additionally the selling dealer applied rust proof, paint protection, fabric protection and “Quiet Ride”. The car is in incredible shape with no signs of any rust or abuse and everything works as it should.
